Pick a model by the job, not by the datasheet

Six application profiles, each with the models that fit and the reason they fit. The selection rules are stated on this page, so you can disagree with them — which is the point.

UAV gimbal payload

Payload mass is the hard constraint, then update rate, then reach. · tune it yourself

ModelBandMax rangeAccuracyMass Interface
LRF0816C1535 nm8 km±2 m58 g—
LRF0818C1535 nm8 km±2 m65 gUART-TTL
LRF0609C1535 nm6 km±2 m62 gUART-TTL
LRF0610C1535 nm6 km±2 m90 gUART + RS-422

Modules on a stabilised gimbal have to earn their grams. These four reach 4 km or more at 120 g or less; the trade is between reach and mass, and between 905 nm (fast, cheap) and 1535 nm (only option past a few kilometres).

Fixed observation tower / border post

Long reach and long cable runs; mass and power are secondary. · tune it yourself

ModelBandMax rangeAccuracyMass Interface
LRF1829C1535 nm23 km±2 m400 gRS-422
LRF1830C1.54 µm23 km±2 m400 gUART + RS-422
LRF1525C1.54 µm15 km±2 m400 gRS-422
LRF1221C1.54 µm12 km±2 m275 gRS-422

A fixed post can carry 275–410 g and a 12–24 V rail. What it cannot afford is a range that collapses in haze, which is why these are all 1535 nm with RS-422.

AGV docking and machine positioning

Short range, high rate, centimetre resolution, light and cheap. · tune it yourself

ModelBandMax rangeAccuracyMass Interface
LRF10VB940 nm9 m±0.05 m1 gUART-TTL
LRF22VB905 nm20 m±0.05 m1.5 gUART-TTL
LRF50H905 nm50 m±0.05 m15 gUART-TTL
LRF50VB905 nm50 m±0.05 m1.3 gUART-TTL

Below 100 m the answer is a single-point sensor: grams, tens to hundreds of hertz, centimetre resolution. Do not buy kilometres you will never use.

Handheld / sport optics OEM

Sub-30 g, 905 nm, 1–2 km, display-friendly output. · tune it yourself

ModelBandMax rangeAccuracyMass Interface
LR1500D23905 nm1.5 km±1 m20 gUART-TTL
LR1500E2905 nm1.5 km±1 m10 gUART-TTL
LR1500E4905 nm1.5 km±1 m10 gUART-TTL
SPD1200N0905 nm1.5 km±0.3 m5 gUART-TTL

Inside a monocular the module is rarely the cost driver — optics are. Take the smallest aperture that still makes range and spend the money on the optical train.

Long-range targeting / designation support

15 km and beyond against vehicle-sized targets, whatever the mass. · tune it yourself

ModelBandMax rangeAccuracyMass Interface
LRF1829C1535 nm23 km±2 m400 gRS-422
LRF1830C1.54 µm23 km±2 m400 gUART + RS-422
LRF1525C1.54 µm15 km±2 m400 gRS-422

Three models in the catalogue publish 15 km or more. All are 1535 nm, all RS-422, all above 275 g — and all quote a specific target, which is the number that matters.

Integrating your own rangefinder

You supply the receiver, timing and optics; you need a transmitter. · tune it yourself

ModelBandMax rangeAccuracyMass Interface
ER9001535 nm——18 g—
ER8001535 nm——18 g—
ER5001535 nm——12 g—
ER4001535 nm——12 g—
ER3001535 nm——8.5 g—
ER2001535 nm——7 g—

These are transmitters, not instruments: pulse energy and package, no receiver and no range. For teams building their own LRF or designator around a 1535 nm source.

Your profile is not here? Describe the job in four numbers — target size, reflectance, distance, mass budget — and we will name two candidates and say which one we expect to fail. Email tommy@erdimail.com Filter all 103 models

Rules are simple filters over the published data (mass, range, band, family), not performance predictions. Model pages carry the test conditions.
