Who supplies laser rangefinder modules from China, and how do you qualify one?
Qualifying a Chinese rangefinder supplier comes down to four checkable things, none of which is a brochure claim: the test condition behind every published range figure, whether the interface and supply voltage are documented per model, whether laser-class evidence exists for the module as supplied, and whether the manufacturer will name a second source for the detector and the laser. ERDI publishes all 59 models with the range condition verbatim and the whole matrix as an open JSON/CSV dataset, so a buyer can check the numbers before writing an email.

The conditions behind those numbers
- LRF1829C — a) Under line-of-sight conditions, with visibility not less than 26 km and humidity not greater than 50% (at 30 °C), the ranging distance for a vehicle target (3 m × 3 m) is ≥ 18,000 m. b) Under line-of-sight conditions, with visibility not less than 30 km and humidity not greater than 50% (at 30 °C), the ranging distance for a target with diffuse reflectance not less than 30% (6 m × 6 m) is ≥ 23,000 m.
- LRF1830C — ≥23,000 m to a 6 × 6 m diffuse target, reflectance ≥30%; line of sight; visibility ≥30 km; relative humidity ≤50% at 30 °C
- LRF1525C — 4m × 6m Objective ≥15 km
- LRF1221C — 4m × 6m Objective ≥12 km
- LRF1222C — Reference target(2.3m × 2.3m) ≥12 km
- LRF1831C — a) Under line-of-sight conditions, with visibility not less than 15 km and humidity not greater than 80% (at 30 °C), the ranging distance for Target 1 (5 m × 15 m) is ≥ 6,500 m. b) Under line-of-sight conditions, with visibility not less than 15 km and humidity not greater than 80% (at 30 °C), the ranging distance for a target with diffuse reflectance not less than 30% (20 m × 20 m) is ≥ 12,000 m.
Questions people ask about this
What should I ask for first?
The measuring condition for each range figure: target size, reflectance and visibility. Without it a 20 km claim cannot be compared with a 5 km claim from another supplier.
What documents exist per model?
Wavelength, published range with condition, accuracy, update rate, interface, supply, mass and laser class are all in the open dataset; anything not measured is left blank rather than estimated.
How do I verify the claim?
Ask for a test report on a target you specify, or measure a sample against a known target. The datasheet condition tells you what the module was measured against; a sample tells you whether the process holds.
