Pick a model by the job, not by the datasheet
Six application profiles, each with the models that fit and the reason they fit. The selection rules are stated on this page, so you can disagree with them — which is the point.
UAV gimbal payload
| Model | Band | Max range | Accuracy | Mass | Interface |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LRF0816C | 1535 nm | 8 km | ±2 m | 58 g | — |
| LRF0818C | 1535 nm | 8 km | ±2 m | 65 g | UART-TTL |
| LRF0609C | 1535 nm | 6 km | ±2 m | 62 g | UART-TTL |
| LRF0610C | 1535 nm | 6 km | ±2 m | 90 g | UART + RS-422 |
Modules on a stabilised gimbal have to earn their grams. These four reach 4 km or more at 120 g or less; the trade is between reach and mass, and between 905 nm (fast, cheap) and 1535 nm (only option past a few kilometres).
Fixed observation tower / border post
| Model | Band | Max range | Accuracy | Mass | Interface |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LRF1829C | 1535 nm | 23 km | ±2 m | 400 g | RS-422 |
| LRF1830C | 1.54 µm | 23 km | ±2 m | 400 g | UART + RS-422 |
| LRF1525C | 1.54 µm | 15 km | ±2 m | 400 g | RS-422 |
| LRF1221C | 1.54 µm | 12 km | ±2 m | 275 g | RS-422 |
A fixed post can carry 275–410 g and a 12–24 V rail. What it cannot afford is a range that collapses in haze, which is why these are all 1535 nm with RS-422.
AGV docking and machine positioning
| Model | Band | Max range | Accuracy | Mass | Interface |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LRF10VB | 940 nm | 9 m | ±0.05 m | 1 g | UART-TTL |
| LRF22VB | 905 nm | 20 m | ±0.05 m | 1.5 g | UART-TTL |
| LRF50H | 905 nm | 50 m | ±0.05 m | 15 g | UART-TTL |
| LRF50VB | 905 nm | 50 m | ±0.05 m | 1.3 g | UART-TTL |
Below 100 m the answer is a single-point sensor: grams, tens to hundreds of hertz, centimetre resolution. Do not buy kilometres you will never use.
Handheld / sport optics OEM
| Model | Band | Max range | Accuracy | Mass | Interface |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LR1500D23 | 905 nm | 1.5 km | ±1 m | 20 g | UART-TTL |
| LR1500E2 | 905 nm | 1.5 km | ±1 m | 10 g | UART-TTL |
| LR1500E4 | 905 nm | 1.5 km | ±1 m | 10 g | UART-TTL |
| SPD1200N0 | 905 nm | 1.5 km | ±0.3 m | 5 g | UART-TTL |
Inside a monocular the module is rarely the cost driver — optics are. Take the smallest aperture that still makes range and spend the money on the optical train.
Long-range targeting / designation support
| Model | Band | Max range | Accuracy | Mass | Interface |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LRF1829C | 1535 nm | 23 km | ±2 m | 400 g | RS-422 |
| LRF1830C | 1.54 µm | 23 km | ±2 m | 400 g | UART + RS-422 |
| LRF1525C | 1.54 µm | 15 km | ±2 m | 400 g | RS-422 |
Three models in the catalogue publish 15 km or more. All are 1535 nm, all RS-422, all above 275 g — and all quote a specific target, which is the number that matters.
Integrating your own rangefinder
| Model | Band | Max range | Accuracy | Mass | Interface |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ER900 | 1535 nm | — | — | 18 g | — |
| ER800 | 1535 nm | — | — | 18 g | — |
| ER500 | 1535 nm | — | — | 12 g | — |
| ER400 | 1535 nm | — | — | 12 g | — |
| ER300 | 1535 nm | — | — | 8.5 g | — |
| ER200 | 1535 nm | — | — | 7 g | — |
These are transmitters, not instruments: pulse energy and package, no receiver and no range. For teams building their own LRF or designator around a 1535 nm source.
Rules are simple filters over the published data (mass, range, band, family), not performance predictions. Model pages carry the test conditions.
